Philosophy and Therapeutic Approaches

Strengths-based psychotherapy is an approach to counseling and therapy that emphasizes an individual’s strengths, resources, and capabilities, rather than focusing on their problems, weaknesses, or deficits. This therapeutic approach is rooted in positive psychology and aims to foster a sense of empowerment and resilience in clients. I believe therapy is tailored to the individual, recognizing their unique strengths, experiences, and goals. The therapist collaborates with the client to identify and utilize these strengths in the therapeutic process.

Solution-focused psychotherapy, also known as solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), is a short-term, goal-oriented therapeutic approach that focuses on helping clients find solutions to their current problems rather than delving deeply into their past experiences or the origins of their issues. Solution-focused psychotherapy is a practical, positive, and empowering approach that helps clients build on their existing strengths to create meaningful changes in their lives.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a widely-used and evidence-based form of psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. It is based on the concept that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and that changing negative thoughts and maladaptive behaviors can lead to improvements in emotional well-being and functioning. In addition to the cognitive and behavioral interventions, CBT also utilizes psychoeducation and skill building.

Background

I am a licensed social worker in practice since 2017. I currently offer in person appointments in Ann Arbor. I obtained my Master’s degree from University of Michigan. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a probation officer for youth, in a long stay mental health facility, and at a psychiatric emergency room. I am a lifetime athlete and music lover. I have competed at the collegiate level and continue to compete at a semi-professional level. Athletes have specific challenges that are best understood but another athlete. I look forward to using this shared experience to help you grow and develop the skills necessary to enjoy being you while also honoring the identity of an athlete. I am excited to work with you!
